Woman injured in pit bull attack, dog shot and killed
NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - A North Philadelphia woman was taken to the hospital overnight after being attacked by a pit bull.
The incident occurred just after midnight in along the 3200 block in North American Street.
When police arrived on scene, they say the woman jumped on top of the hood of their patrol car in an attempt to get away from the dog. The dog continued to bite the female, even when officers exited their vehicle.
Police say officers both officers shot the dog one time causing it to finally release its grip on the woman.
The dog died a short time later, and the woman sustained injuries to her legs and arms. The woman is in stable condition.
Police described the dog as a "larger than normal" pit bull, and say the dog and its owner lived on the block where the incident occurred.
