Woman struck, killed while waiting for bus in Northeast Philly; driver arrested

A woman has died after being hit by a truck in Northeast Philadelphia. Police say the driver fled the scene, but has since been arrested.

Investigators say a 64-year-old woman was waiting for a bus at the 10,900 block of Academy Road just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

According to authorities, a man driving a white Ford F150 hit the woman and drove away from the scene.

A tip led police to a shopping plaza on Knights and Woodhaven Road where they recovered the front-end damaged Ford F150. The driver was then taken into custody.

The woman was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
