Camden Riversharks to Fold

The Camden Riversharks, an independent minor league baseball team that had played on the Camden waterfront since 2001, will cease operations immediately, the team announced on its website.

The team, which played at Campbell's Field, made an announcement after it failed to reach an agreement on a new lease with the ballpark's owner, the Camden County Improvement Authority (CCIA).

"We would like to thank our partners and fans for supporting the club for 15 memorable seasons," the club said in a statement. "We did everything we could to keep affordable, family entertainment alive and well in Camden."

Prominent major leaguers who have suited up for the Riversharks over the years include 2008 Phillie Pedro Feliz, as well as Stephen Drew, Jered Weaver, Wilson Valdez and Jose Lima.

A team merchandise sale has been scheduled for Ocotber 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the ballpark, as well as October 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.
