10-year-old girl saves grandmother's life
WESTHAMPTON, N.J. - The quick thinking of a 10-year-old girl in New Jersey likely saved her grandmother's life and the lives of several others.
Nakiya Yates was riding to school with her grandmother Valerie on Tuesday when Valerie appeared to get sick and lost control of the wheel.
So Nakiya jumped into action.
She steered the car away from danger and shouted to warn a pedestrian to get out of the way.
Nakiya's grandmother says her actions that day made her a hero.
"I looked at her and I was like I can't do this, I don't know what to do," Nakiya said. "So I unbuckled my seatbelt and unlocked the door and I jumped out."
Doctors say Valerie suffered a coughing panic attack.
