2 women struck by lightning moments apart in Ocean County, NJ

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ - Emergency Responders say two women are injured following two separate incidents of lightning strikes in Ocean County, New Jersey.

The first incident happened at 2:53p.m., according to officials. A -63-year old woman was struck on the beach has been taken to Ocean Medical Hospital in Brick, NJ. Her condition remains unknown at this time.

The second incident happened moments after at 300 Ocean Avenue. Officials tell FOX 29 that a 54 year old woman seated in a vehicle was stuck. She also remains at Ocean Medical where her condition is unknown at this time.

The National Weather Service reports lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year. Although most lightning occurs in the summer, people can be struck at any time of year.
