A Deaf Woman's 911 Text Helped Save Two Kids

A deaf woman texted the police when she spotted two kids who'd been left alone in a car, officials say. The department released the above depiction of their conversation.

An officer who was dispatched later found that the kids had been left in the care of a 15-year-old, Fox 25 reports. Police say they'd been left inside the car for almost an hour.

No arrests in that case were made. But the Text-to-911 program is being praised for heralding a new - if essential - way to contact the police. For now, the feature is still not available in most of the country, and authorities still advise the public to try to make voice calls.

But some say this new feature could help victims in other precarious situations, such as when hiding from somebody.
