Allentown diocese sued over priest named in grand jury probe

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- A man is suing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown alleging abuse by a now-defrocked priest named in a statewide grand jury report this year.

The now-29-year-old former altar boy, identified as John Doe, alleges that he was sexually assaulted by former priest Bruno Tucci between 1999 and 2001 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Nesquehoning, Carbon County.

The suit filed Monday in Lehigh County accuses the diocese of failing to protect children from Tucci after an earlier complaint. The diocese said it has "set a clear tone of zero tolerance, and of keeping children safe." A message left for Tucci wasn't immediately returned.

The diocese and several others plan victim compensation funds following the report's conclusion that hundreds of priests molested more than 1,000 children since the 1940s.
