Alligator sighting on a South Carolina beach

An alligator was spotted at a South Carolina beach Monday.

The 4 to 5 foot long alligator was seen in the surf on Sullivan's Island.

Local police and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) chased the animal down the beach before they finally caught it.

According to investigators, seeing alligators this time of year isn't uncommon because strong currents can trap some gators and sweep them ashore.

According to the DNR, this is the third alligator sighting on the island this June.
