Arrest Made in December Robberies

Philadelphia Police have announced an arrest in the series of robberies, mostly of cell phones, from December in the Germantown/East Mt. Airy area.

Eric Haynes, 22, has been arrested and charged with eight robberies and related offenses. He had previously been arrested on weapons charges.

The series of robberies took place in the area between December 6 and December 28, always in the morning and while the victims were either waiting at a bus stop or walking to one.

In the last of the robberies, surveillance video was recovered of the offender and his vehicle. Police caught up to Haynes on December 30, noting that he matched the description of the robber. He was arrested that day for carrying a 9MM handgun without a permit.

Subsequent search warrants at Haynes' home, vehicle and cell phone found more evidence, including cell phone cases and evidence of Craigslist postings advertising the stolen phones for sale. Haynes was arrested for the robberies Wednesday and charged Thursday.
