Arrest Made in Southwest Philadelphia Vehicular Homicide

Police have announced an arrest in the Monday crash that killed a woman as she attempted to cross the street near a trolley in Southwest Philadelphia.

According to a police statement, 23-year-old Malachi Armstrong was attempting to pass a SEPTA trolley at the intersections of 54 th Street and Woodland Avenue, and after running a red light and crossing over to Westbound lanes, struck 38-year-old Miriam Wilson, who was attempting to cross the street. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Armstrong, who was described as homeless and smelling of marijuana, has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Homicide by Vehicle, Homicide by Vehicle while Driving Under the Influence, Simple Assault, and related offenses.
