Community works together to help rescue terrified puppy from drain
(STORYFUL) -- On Friday morning, a young pup could be heard crying from a concrete drain on the side of the highway in Mississippi. She had reportedly fallen through a small opening and down four feet into a pipe that led to an even deeper drop-off.
The public followed all proper channels of reporting the pup to the city's animal control, but by 6 p.m. on Friday, the dog has been in the tunnel for 24 hours with no intervention.
Luckily, Clarksdale Animal Rescue Effort and Shelter (CARES) stepped in, along with volunteers, to rescue the pup.
With the help of heavy machinery, the top of the drain was removed, and a shelter employee climbed into the pipe to save the pup.
The shelter later posted to Facebook, noting how thrilled they are for the puppy's future. The shelter also says the puppy will be featured on their website soon.
In the meantime, the shelter is accepting name suggestions in the comments of their Facebook post.
