Cops: Drunk Driver Says His Dog Was Behind the Wheel

A Florida man arrested for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident told police that his dog had been behind the wheel.

Reliford Cooper, 26, was busted on Wednesday evening after allegedly leading cops on a chase through two ditches before he crashed into a home.

Cooper allegedly fled the scene and hid in a church bathroom where he was eventually arrested. As he was getting handcuffed, he blamed the evening's chaos on his pooch, according to a police report cited by WPTV.

According to the police report, he said: "My dog was driving that car." He also said: "I ran because I wanted to. You ain't gonna find no drugs or guns on me."

The deputy allegedly smelled alcohol and marijuana on Cooper, who then started vomiting and claimed he had a back injury, according to the police report.

He was taken to the hospital and then later transported to jail. His bond was set at $26,120.

Cooper was arrested on charges including DWI with property damage, aggravated fleeing, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and resisting/obstructing an officer without violence.
