Cops: Robber Who Held Up Store in Darth Vader Costume Arrested

Police in Florida say they've nabbed a man who allegedly tried to stick up a convenience store on Sunday while wearing a Darth Vader costume.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 32-year-old Jacob Jeremy Mercer entered the 8 til Late store and allegedly demanded money from the clerks.

Cops say in his hand was a gun and on his face was the Star Wars mask.

"We looked at each other for a couple of seconds it was a little scary," a witness told WTSP.

A store employee says he threw a wine bottle at the suspect, who then fled from the store with blood running down his face.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene. However, an arrest was made shortly thereafter.

Mercer is charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

No court date had been scheduled as of Monday afternoon and it was unclear if Mercer had an attorney.
