Popular Costco bakery item recalled for 'life-threatening' allergen risk

Costco has issued a recall on packages of its Traditional Madeleines sold at select stores in several states after discovering the products may contain an undeclared allergen, posing a severe risk to people with allergies. 

The company issued the recall on its website on April 7, sending a notice to members who had purchased products.

The company issued the recall because the treats contained tree nuts (Hazelnut/Filbert) and soy, but did not list the ingredient on the packages.

"Our records indicate that you or one of your add on members may have purchased item # 2000012 Traditional Madeleines, which was inadvertently packaged with Madeleines filled with Chocolate Hazelnut," the notice said.

People with a hazelnut, filbert or soy allergy or severe sensitivity "risk a life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product."

The affected products were distributed between March 30, 2026 and April 6, 2026 at the following Costco warehouses: 

  • Missoula, Montana
  • Burlington, Washington
  • East Peoria, Illinois
  • Bellevue, Wisconsin
  • Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin
  • Chico, California
  • Thornton, Colorado
  • Gilroy, California
  • Bayamon, Puerto Rico
  • Pembroke Pines, Florida
  • Fairfax, Virginia

Do not consume recalled products if allergic

What's next:

The retailer said if consumers are allergic to Hazelnuts/Filberts or soy, they should not consume this product.
