Crane crashes through Baldwin Park home, splitting it open

A crane came crashing through the roof of a million-dollar home on Lower Union Drive in Orlando's Baldwin Park on Monday morning.

Orlando police officers say no one was inside the home at the time, and no one from Beyel Brothers Crane and Rigging or workers from a roofing company were injured. The homeowner said they were just having their roof replaced when the accident happened.

The boom from the crane smashed through the center of the highest part of the roof. Code enforcement is now investigating, and so is the corporate director for safety and compliance for Beyel Brothers.

Beyel Brothers brought in two larger cranes to upright the fallen crane. Their crews spend much of the afternoon getting those larger cranes situated just right along with the booms and the rigging. They are hoping to not create any more damage than what's already been done.

The slice down the roof looks to be at least three-to-four feet wide. The homeowners say they received a call from emergency crews, telling them there was a problem at the house. The husband and wife were both surprised by the damage, but both said they were happy no one was home and none of the workers were injured.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation. Until crews are able to get inside, they will not be able to assess the extent of the damage.
