Drexel University Installs Mental Health Screening Kiosk

PHILADELPHIA, PA (WTXF) - After a handful of bullying incidents and high profile suicides, mental health issues on college campuses are a national concern. On Drexel's campus they've come up with an innovative way to try and address it.

Drexel University recently became the first university in the country to install a mental health screening kiosk. Paul Furtaw from Drexel Counseling Services said this is a proactive step towards getting students help.

Initially answering questions about mental health issues in public in the Rec Center seemed like it would be uncomfortable but FOX 29's Bill Anderson did the screening along with students and they said the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Drexel Staff agreed that students who come to use the kiosk are already experiencing some concern or at least have questions, this way they get answers.

They'll continue to keep track of how many people take advantage of the kiosk before deciding whether to expand.
