Suspected drunk driver faces charges after officer injured
A suspected drunk driver is facing charges after police say he injured an officer outside Lincoln Financial Field
PHILADELPHIA - Chaotic scenes during an Eagles game this past weekend left a Philadelphia officer injured and a New Jersey man charged for driving under the influence.
What we know:
Police say 45-year-old Thomas Herrschaft was driving "carelessly" at an "unsafe speed" before reversing into a patrol vehicle on the 1000 block of Pattison Avenue.
The crash happened outside the Linc around 5 p.m. Sunday as the Eagles faced off against the L.A. Rams in a snowy playoff game.
An officer stationed at a nearby traffic post was injured, but released from a local hospital after treatment.
Herrschaft was taken into custody and charged with DUI, Accident Involving Death or Injury, Accidents-Damage, Driving Without a License.
What they're saying:
Pennsylvania State Police, who assisted at the scene, said the driver nearly hit several pedestrians while evading police during a pursuit.
After reversing into a patrol vehicle, he was surrounded by officers to "prevent further escape and danger to the public."
Video shows the moment the driver was pulled from the driver's side and placed under arrest.
