DUI Suspected in Homecoming Crash that injured 7 at Delaware State Univ.

DOVER, Del. (AP) -- A drunken driver struck seven people, seriously injuring one, when he accidentally drove his car into a fraternity picnic area during a Delaware State University homecoming event.

Dover police say 28-year-old Gregory Ligon was trying to park his car near a grassy area outside of a fraternity house on Saturday evening when he pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake and plowed into a group.

The driver's side door was open at the time, and police say one woman was seriously injured when she was pinned between the door and a tree. She was flown to a hospital with major injuries. Police say the car came to a stop when it struck a tree.

Police say Ligon will be charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
