Eagles playoffs: 102-year-old fan has been devoted since team beginning
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - As the Eagles host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon in the first round of the NFL Playoffs, there’s a fan who will be watching and who may have the distinction of being the oldest Eagles fan around. Eloise Brown has been a fan since there was an Eagles team.
"I remember when they started," Brown said from her senior home in South Philadelphia.
At 102, Ms. Brown, originally from North Philly, has been with the Birds since Day one.
"She’s a legitimate, card-holding, dyed-in-the-wool, bleed green, official Eagles fan," said State Sen. Anthony Williams, of South Philadelphia.
Williams, a longtime family friend, helped arrange tickets for Brown to attend the Eagles Cowboys game in December. It was only her 5th game she’s ever seen in person. Her fandom and a sign reading ‘102-years-old and still cheering for the Eagles’ caught the attention of the team, who gave Brown the VIP treatment.
She was invited onto the field before the game for a moment she never dreamed would happen.
"A little old lady like me? 102? And being able to go on the field? It’s amazing," said Brown, who was sporting A.J. Brown (no relation) earrings and #11 cozy hoodie.
She got to meet players like C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Brandon Graham, Brett Toth, Jordan Mialata and Head Coach Nick Sirianni. She even got a Number 102 Eagles jersey from team President Don Smolenski. Williams says Brown struck a chord with some of the players.
"That team has a lot of those kinds of guys on it that genuinely have that mindset of a "mom-mom" in their family and they can identify with her love and support," said Sen. Williams.
Brown’s granddaughter and communications director for Williams’ Sabrina Hall isn’t surprised her grandmother is getting this attention.

"She’s always been a giver, she’s always been a philanthropist, she puts God and family first. She’s just amazing," said Hall.
Brown is excited about this week’s playoff game against the Packers. But, she’s still concerned for the health of Jalen Hurts and his concussion recovery. Like a true grandmother, she would like Hurts to sit this game out for his safety.
"I feel he’s like a grandson of mine. I felt like very close. I don’t want him to come back but I know he’s coming back," said Brown.
Brown says she’ll be watching this weekend with her foam stress ball in hand that she keeps "very close" on game days.
She says she has a strategy for watching tight games, "If it gets too close, then I go close my eyes," said Brown, who admits catching a nap or two during "boring" games.
What does she love most about the Eagles? "I love them to win," said Brown.
Spoken like a true Birds fan at any age.
