Family, Friends say goodbye to Wilmington teen killed in school fight

WILMINGTON, Del. (WTXF) -A memorial outside of Howard High School of Technology continues to grow in honor of 16-year-old Amy Joyner-Francis killed during a bathroom brawl nearly 2 weeks ago. A funeral service happened a little more than a week after she died in a school fight in Wilmington."

And on Friday, the teen's family learned authorities need more time before making a decision on filing charges in her death.

Sorry and heavy hearts at a service to say goodbye to someone so young.

Amy's family and other mourners anguished that no arrests have been made 10 days after her death.

Amy Joyner-Francis' Aunt Leanne spoke outside the public service to remember her late niece. The 16- year- old died after a fight inside a girl's bathroom at Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington just over one week ago.

As rain fell Sunday dozens of mourners filed into Saint Paul UAME church to offer condolences to Amy's family. But with no one arrested or charged in her death, the teenager's Aunt Leanne says peace and comfort are elusive.

"We're very upset by this can't believe it happened. She was a sweet girl," Leanne said. "I can't believe it still. We just want justice as well."

Friends and community members echo the same frustration. 3 female classmates of Amy's are persons of interest in the investigation into the high schoolers death and have not returned to school.

"We just want answers. Why would you take this young lady's life when she was just trying to go to school," Leanne said.

"This really could have been my child as well so I wanted to make sure we came to show our support and love."

Despite their heartbreak, Amy's family says they are grateful for the compassion of friends and strangers alike.
