Fellow Mummer sets up foundation for victims of deadly crash

A fellow mummer has set-up a foundation after three people were tragically killed in a crash in South Philadelphia.

"We've lost talent. We've lost individuals. We've lost the future of Mummery," said Angelo Lutz who like much of the community, especially the Mummers are heartbroken over the loss of three people killed in a car crash. Two of the victims are members of the South Philly String Band.

"I know Dennis Palandro Jr. since he was born. He's basically like my nephew. I held in him these hands when he was born as a baby."

Lutz is a member of the Hegeman String Band and says he also knew Joe Ferry.

"Many times he sat at that table there and ate with his fiancee. He was a great kid and a great musician."

At his restaurant Kitchen Consigliere in Collingswood Friday, Lutz says he's set-up a foundation to honor Palandro and Ferry whose fiancee Kelly Wisely also died. Palandro's wife, Nicole, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

"So we started the Palandro-Ferry Memorial Foundation and it's going to live in perpetuity. Our motto is never forget," said Lutz.

Meanwhile, people continue to put up balloons and light candles on Packer Avenue in South Philly where the crash happened early Wednesday morning. This as new details emerge in the investigation.

The police department in Newport, Delaware, confirmed Friday they pursued the driver who hit the suv the victims were in just minutes before the deadly crash. Delaware State Police joined in.

Both agencies say they called off the pursuit because of high speeds.

Delaware State Police tell FOX 29 29 they notified Pennsylvania State Police about the driver Keith Campbell. Pennsylvania State Police tell us they alerted troopers who couldn't find Campbell's car.

Minutes later, Campbell's Audi slammed into the SUV

"It's just devastating. It's just horrific and tragic," said Lutz. He says he plans to ask the String Band Association during its next meeting to join in the foundation. There's a donation page set up for the foundation. There's also several GoFundMe pages set-up, including one for the woman who survived.
