Firefighter hurt in building fire that took 2 hours to control

A firefighter had to be taken from a two-alarm building fire to the hospital.

Crews arrived shortly after 1am to find flames shooting from the second and third floors of the building on S. Broad Street, between Wharton and Reed streets.

It took 75 firefighters about two hours to get it under control and the home was gutted.

Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel, on the scene, said the heat has been taking its toll on firefighters, including the ones here, making it hard for them to stay hydrated.

They also had to deal with a downpour.

The injured firefighter is in the hospital, stable condition, but details of the injury have not been released.

As for the cause of the fire, FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reports there had been speculation about lightning but nothing is official yet.
