Five people in the hospital including young boy after shooting in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WTXF) - "It's terrible every day," said Captain Palumbo.

The violence in North Philadelphia was especially bad Saturday. Police said four men stormed the corner of North 20th Street and Susquehanna Avenue and fired more than 40 gunshots at a group of people. Bullets pelted five of them, including a 5-five-year-old boy.

"One officer quickly grabbed the five-year-old child, who was shot in the knee, and took him to St. Christopher's Hospital," said Captain Palumbo.

Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Palumbo said the child is recovering, but two of the adults are listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital. One neighbor said the brazen assault sounded like a series of fireworks. Police said the shooting was no accident.

"There's about 41 total cartridge casings on the highway. So, they deliberately fired into that group," Captain Palumbo explained.

Detectives went door-to-door Sunday morning looking for information. Cameras on the block may also provide clues. Investigators want to know: who are the four men that didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on families enjoying a Saturday night outside?

"There's a lot of stuff that goes on out here and nothing we can do about it," said one neighbor.

The neighbor, a mother of three, said the violence is constant. She sends her sympathy to the families of the victims, especially the mother of the five-year-old boy.

"She has my blessings. I'm gonna send a prayer up to her," said the woman.
