Ford recalls over 289,000 vehicles in US for rearview camera issues

Ford has issued two separate recalls on a collective 289,000 vehicles in the U.S. for issues related to the backup camera.

Recall notices dated April 23 and posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warn of intermittent issues with the rearview camera, increasing the risk of a crash.

Here’s what drivers should know:

Ford recalls over rearview camera issues

What we know:

Ford is recalling certain 2015 Ford F-Super Duty F250, F350, and F450 trucks, according to the NHTSA notice. Also under the recall are certain 2015 Ford Expeditions, 2015 Lincoln Navigators, and 2015 Lincoln MKCs.

The recall notice states the rearview camera can intermittently display "a blank or distorted image," reducing the driver’s view of what’s behind the vehicle – increasing the risk of a crash.

The NHTSA said a loss of electrical conductivity caused by fretting corrosion on the terminal header connector internal to the camera could cause the rearview image issue.

A separate recall notice on the same date also lists certain 2022-2023 Ford Broncos, too.

This notice states how drivers can intermittently experience "either a rear camera blue image or a full blue or black image on the SYNC screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse, or when the 360-degree view is selected and available (during lowspeed operation)," also increasing the risk of a crash.
