Former Philadelphians show Eagles pride despite living 750 miles away

Eagles fans who no longer live in Philly are celebrating from afar.

A couple who moved south nearly three years ago proudly displayed their Eagles pride outside their new home.

They’re also retired from the Philadelphia Police Department and get to watch their team solely as fans.

What we know:

A native Philadelphia couple moved South a few years ago, leaving Philly for warmer weather. But they haven’t missed a beat when it comes to their Philadelphia Eagles. They’re showing off pride in their new state and say they aren’t missing out. They are also retired police and are now happy to watch big games like last night without having to work.

What they're saying:

"To show our colors. We're proud of being Eagles fans," said Gregory Santamala about hanging an Eagles flag outside their home in Bluffton, South Carolina, where they moved almost three years ago.. He made a social media post of his wife proudly showing off  the flag.

"Even though we moved 750 miles away we're still as you can see green to the heart. Very much Eagle fans," said Gregory when I talked with him and his wife Theresa over zoom this evening about the big win.

"It elevates the mood of the city, people how they treat each other and how they act. You just have a sense of pride," he said.

They playfully defend their hometown team when it comes to some neighbors. One who is a Giants fan.

"I went over there and personally thanked them for giving us Saquon. I’m going to send them a gift basket," laughed the couple. They are also retired from the Philadelphia Police Department. Theresa was a police officer and Gregory a uniformed officer then a homicide detective.  Now they can watch and celebrate soley as fans.

"We worked all the parades and celebrations and I had a lot of fun when we worked it. It was a lot of fun but no it's nice to watch from afar this time," said Gregory.
