Game warden performs emergency C-section to save fawn

An Oklahoma game warden is being praised for saving the life of a deer after performing an emergency C-section on a doe that had been struck and killed crossing a highway.

Oklahoma Game Wardens posted the story on their Facebook page over the weekend.

According to the post, Game Warden Ryan Walker came across the doe on the site of a highway in Osage County. He got out to investigate and found that a deceased fawn near the doe's body.

That's when Walker noticed movement in the doe's stomach, and he immediately jumped into action and performed a C-section to save a second fawn that had become trapped in its mother's womb.

Within seconds, the game warden says the newborn fawn began breathing on its own. The fawn was then taken to a local animal rehab where it will receive a second chance at life.

Earlier this spring, a police officer in Warren County, New Jersey made a similar life-saving effort, performing a C-section to remove a fawn from a deceased doe.
