JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating the death of an off-duty Jersey City police officer who died from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a spokeswoman for the city's Public Safety Department, says the shooting occurred about 7:50 p.m. Sunday inside a home.
Police were called to the home on reports of an officer being shot. They found the 33-year-old officer with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said the investigation into the death is ongoing, and they declined further comment Monday.
Dozens of police officers gathered outside the hospital's emergency entrance following the shooting.
The officer's name has not been released. Authorities say he had graduated from the academy about a year ago.
