Local fire company remembers Major Greg Barney

LAWNSIDE, NJ (WTXF) Major Greg Barney, a veteran police officer, was killed in the line of duty in Georgia Thursday while attempting to serve a warrant.

Condolences are going out across the country but special acknowledgement is taking place locally in Lawnside, New Jersey where Major Barney previously served for 17 years as a volunteer fire fighter in the tight knit community.

Glancing at the Lawnside Fire Company Facebook page shows how well liked Major Barney was. They refer to him by his nicknames G-Money & Egg Salad and his friends and coworkers told FOX 29's Bill Anderson they're not surprised that he gave his life in the service of others.

A black ribbon hangs across the front of the Lawnside Fire Company in remembrance of Major Barney. But ribbon or not it's clear in talking to those who knew him that there's no danger of Major Barney and his service to others ever being forgotten.
