Local non-profit pairs veterans, first responders with rescue pups

Rescue dogs will be placed in forever homes Saturday thanks to a local non-profit with a soft spot for pit bull and bully breeds.

Don't Bully Us Rescue, which operates out of Philadelphia and New Jersey, is building on its mission to promote kindness and compassion toward pit bull type dogs with its 1st Annual Battleship & Bullies: Saluting Our Heroes Fundraiser.

The event centers around the non-profit's Hero Scholarship Program, which pairs rescue dogs in need with military veterans and first responders, providing them with therapy dog training, dog food and veterinary care.

The fundraiser, emceed by FOX 29's Lucy Noland, will run from 4-9 p.m. at Battleship New Jersey in Camden.

Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
