Man Charged in Wilmington Shooting that Injured 10-Year-Old Boy

Police say they have arrested and charged a man in connection with a shooting that left a 10-year-old boy injured in Wilmington, Del.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 1:50 a.m. on the 700 block of Townsend Place.

Police responded to the area after reports of a shooting and when they arrived they found a 10-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim has been identified as 10-year-old Mekhi Mitchell who loves football basketball and school at his Christian academy, according to his family. His family says he should be getting ready for 5th grade instead he's fighting for his life at Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children. The victim is in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Authorities say Jaleel Goldsborough, 24, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited Causing Injury or Death to Another Person.
