Man charged with shooting death outside community center

Police say they have arrested and charged a man in connection with the death of a man outside the Mantua Haverford Community Center.

According to police, the shooting happened in front of the victim's 12-year-old son and other witnesses just before 8:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

Officers arrived to find 29-year-old Piere Burbage lying on the porch, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say surveillance video suggests he and the gunman had been arguing. That's when the gunman fired three shots at Burbage, who'd been standing on the steps.

Burbage was hit in the chest, arm and lower back, taken to the hospital and pronounced dead after about 30 minutes.

Police say Muhammad Johnson was taken into custody without further incident and charged with: murder, VUFA and related offenses.
