Man dead after police-involved shooting in North Philadelphia

Police say a man is dead after a police-involved shooting on N. Darien Street in North Philadelphia.

It happened shorty after 5 p.m. Friday.

According to police, officers responded to a theft in progress and they were met by a civilian witness saying someone was in her car. Police say the officer approached the red vehicle and saw the man inside.

According to investigators, the man tried to disarm the officer and a struggle ensues. At that time, the officer ordered backup. Police say when the backup officers arrived the man complied initially but then grabbed an officer's gun and another struggle ensued.

Police say three officers discharged their weapons. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. No officers were injured.
