The incident marks Australia’s second fatal shark attack of the year.

According to BBC News, Perth’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development urged the public to exercise "additional caution" in the area. The agency also said the shark involved was believed to be a great white.

Video from the scene released by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation showed police boats and rescue crews responding to the incident.

Earlier this year, a 12-year-old boy died a week after being attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbor. During the same two-day period, three other shark attacks were reported along the New South Wales coast, though those incidents were non-fatal.
