Man killed in police-involved shooting in Vineland identified
VINELAND, N.J. (WTXF) - Authorities in Vineland, New Jersey are continuing to investigate a deadly police-involved shooting.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Just for Wheels Car, Truck and Van Rental on the 2500 block of South Delsea Drive.
According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred when detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and Lower Township Police Department encountered a man as they were conducting a law enforcement operation at the scene.
The man, who has since been identified as 19-year-old Jacob Servais, was shot by one of the detectives.
He was taken by ambulance to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, where he was pronounced dead. None of the detectives were injured.
Witnesses at the scene tell FOX 29 they heard yelling prior to the gunshots. A dark-colored sedan at the scene appeared to have been struck by gunfire during the incident.
Police have not yet said whether or not the man who was killed was armed. None of the detectives was injured.
