MCSO: 11-year-old boy shot and killed grandmother before killing himself

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (KSAZ) - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating a murder suicide involving an 11-year-old boy.

Deputies received a call Saturday evening from a man who said his 11-year-old grandson had shot and killed his wife, 65-year old Yvonne Woodard, and then shot himself.

Doyle Hebert said he and his wife had full custody of their 11-year-old grandson and told investigators they had asked him to clean his room and pick up after himself, but he was being stubborn about it.

Hebert told investigators while they were sitting on the couch watching TV, their grandson came up behind his wife and shot her in the back of the head with a handgun that belonged to Hebert and then shot himself.

MCSO says a preliminary investigation shows there had been no previous signs the boy might harm someone or himself and there was no cause for concern prior to this incident.

On Monday, officials with the Litchfield Elementary School statement, where the 11-year-old reportedly went to school, released a statement on the incident, saying the student, who was not identified, went to school at Western Sky Middle School, and that several school psychologists are on campus to provide support.
