Narcan now readily accessible in AED cabinets in Delaware County
Delaware County, Pa. (WTXF) - Narcan, the lifesaving drug is just about everywhere, and officials in Delaware County are taking the next step. They are making the nasal spray accessible to everyone.
The district attorney and chair of the Heroin Task Force announced Monday that Narcan will be included in automated external defibrillator cabinets also known as AED. Narcan quickly reverses the side effects of an opioid overdose.
The DA said they will include this in all county AED cabinets, including the Delaware County courthouse, the Government Center and even parks. This will allow anyone who is near someone overdosing to help.
The district attorney says adding Narcan to AED cabinets isn't costing taxpayers a single dollar. She says all the funding is coming from grants as well as the DA's office forfeiture fund.
