Newark trailer park fires ruled arson

Newark, Del. (WTXF) Authorities say they are searching for an arsonist who ignited several vacant trailers in a Newark, Delaware trailer park Tuesday afternoon.

The blaze, reported shortly before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, occurred inside the Glasgow Court Trailer Park off of the Pulaski Highway. The Christiana Fire Company arrived on the scene with several vacant house trailers ablaze.

State fire investigators were called to the scene. A criminal investigation is on-going.

According to authorities, the fires damaged nine vacant trailers. There have been four other occasions when firefighters have arrived to multiple trailers on fire. Authorities say all have been declared arson. Several vacant trailers were set ablaze on 3/14/16, 1/14/16, 9/24/15, and 1/14/15. The fires have been reported between the hours of 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.

In addition to the alleged arsons, the person or persons have been disabling the fire hydrants in the area causing a delay in extinguishing the fires because firefighters cannot access the nearest water supply, according to authorities.

One firefighter was injured in Tuesday's fires. The firefighter was taken to the Christiana Hospital in good condition suffering from burns.
