NJ funeral home operators charged with stealing more than $1.3M

MOORESTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- Three members of a family of funeral directors in New Jersey have been charged with stealing more than $1.3 million from a funeral home they operated but didn't own.

Burlington County prosecutors say Raymond Zale; his brother, Ronald Zale, and Raymond's son, Sean Zale, were contracted to run McChesney Funeral Home in Moorestown. They say the three men diverted more than $2 million from the business into their own accounts between 2008 and 2016 and only sent the owner enough money to keep the operation afloat.

The funeral home closed in 2016 when the Zales neglected to renew its license.

The three men each face theft by deception charges. It wasn't known Tuesday if any of the three have retained attorneys.
