NJ woman accused of setting fire that damaged home, killed pets

MARLBORO, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say a New Jersey woman intentionally set fire to the townhouse where she lives, severely damaging the unit and killing two family pets.

Monmouth County prosecutors say Suzanne Demo is charged with aggravated arson, obstruction, weapons offenses and two counts each of aggravated assault and animal cruelty.

Authorities say the 20-year-old Marlboro woman allegedly lit a bed on fire in the home's master bedroom around 3:30 a.m. Sunday and used a box cutter to stab someone in the hands and arms. But they haven't disclosed what spurred the incident or provided further details about it,

Everyone in the townhouse escaped safely except the family's dog and cat, who were found dead.

It wasn't known Monday if Demo has retained an attorney.
