Philadelphia, New York Police Departments play baseball for good cause
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) It may look like a friendly baseball game but some officers took to the field for a bigger mission than just winning. They played to help their fallen brothers in blue.
Right from the start, it got ugly. From the dugout of the NYPD. And while there may be a rivalry on the field. Off the field-- it's nothing but love.
For a second straight year, officers with the New York Finest baseball team volunteered their time to take on the Philadelphia Police Blue Sox.
Real baseball-- under the lights, with officers' names in lights, and all the money raised, going to the Philadelphia Order of Police Survivors Fund.
Helping people like Kim Pawlowski, who lost her husband, John, in the line of duty in 2009.
"It's just nice even just bringing my son here, and him being able to keep his fathers memory alive," she told FOX 29.
The Trenton Thunder were happy to offer up their baseball field for a good cause and Philadelphia police officer Quiles-Rosa wouldn't miss it.
"This is a fun rivalry. A fun thing, but we are all in this together. We are all a family in blue," he said.
America's pastime offering a little downtime from the stress of the job. Philadelphia beat the New York team 7-3.
