Police: 4 juveniles shot in Wilmington

Police are looking for the gunman or gunmen who sprayed bullets into a group of young people in the city's troubled Hedgeville neighborhood Tuesday night.

The victims--aged 12-16-- were hit near the intersection of South Van Buren and Elm streets just after 9:15 p.m.

"I heard shots-- pop, pop, pop, pop, pop!," said Darlene VanRiper, who went outside to find her 12 year old grandson, Christian Williams, bleeding from two gunshot wounds. "I saw blood. He was in shock, trembling."

A 15-year-old boy remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday night. Williams and the others are expected to be okay.

But neighbors here are tired of the violence- three shooting incidents in just the past week.

Lincoln Corbin says he covered his three young children with his body when the gunfire erupted.A man was murdered in the street in front of his house last month. He plans to move away as soon as possible.

And John Betz, 82, who's owned an appliance repair shop here for half a century, says he, too, may call it quits.

"I mean, the ship's going down and nothing's going to bring it back up."
