Police arrest man after series of alleged church burglaries

Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged a man after multiple burglaries at a church.

Thursday night, around 9:00 p.m., officers were staking out Our Lady of Calvary Church on the 1100 block of Knights Road, following a number of recent burglaries at that location.

Officers were sitting inside the church when they say they head someone unlock the front door.

Police say William Sides, 28, then walked into the church and began to try and pry open the poor box.

Officers then identified themselves, causing Sides to run out of the church, before he was arrested outside without further incident.

According to police, Sides burglarized that same church on two separate occasions.

Sides has been charged with three counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, and related offenses.
