Police interrupt home invasion, 3 suspects arrested

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia police made a daring rescue overnight and stopped a home invasion in progress.

It happened on the 2100 block of South 66th Street around 2 a.m. Friday in Southwest Philadelphia.

Three armed men broke into a residence as a 65-year-old woman was cooking a meal and another woman in her 60s slept.

Investigators say both were tied up with speaker wire and were so terrified, neighbors heard their screams and dialed 911. That's when officers went for the rescue and confronted the suspects.

"As they get to the second floor, the center bedroom, the one female who resides there, she's tied up with speaker wire. They bring her downstairs and she's able to communicate that there's a second person upstairs," said Philadelphia Police Department Lt. John Walker. "In the back room when the males were underneath the beds the officers did struggle with the individual but they were able to overpower him and get the gun off him and get the knife off him and get him into custody."

Police say the third suspect surrendered. They had cash and jewelry on them when arrested. Detectives are looking at them for other possible robberies in the area.

Charges are pending.
