Police officer injured when driver passes out in car in North Philadelphia

A police officer is being treated and released after an incident Saturday morning.

Police were flagged down by civilians on the 1700 block of Diamond Street for reports of a man passed out in a vehicle. The officers parked behind the vehicle and both officers walked up to the driver's side door.

The male driver, who looked at the officers, put the car in reverse and backed into the police vehicle. The man then passed out again with his foot on the gas pedal.

Officers broke the window to shut the car off, but while breaking the window one of the officers suffered cuts to his right arm.

The officer was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is expected to be treated and then released.
