Police: Uniformed man seen throwing punch in video is not an officer
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WTXF) - Police in Allentown, Pennsylvania are responding to a video that surfaced on social media which appears to show a man in a uniform, wearing a badge, punching a man in the middle of the street.
The video surfaced on Facebook early Sunday morning, and police are now saying the man in uniform is not a police officer
Officers were called to an area outside The View Lounge on the 1100 block of Hamilton Street Sunday around 4:30 a.m.
The video shows a crowd gathering in the street as civilians engage in a verbal confrontation with a number of men in uniforms who appear to be wearing badges. Then, one of the men in uniform walks over and appears to strike one of the civilians in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Towards the end of the video, the man who was punched is sitting back up, being tended to by other people in the group.
Allentown police captain Charles Roca tells FOX 29 the man in uniform who threw the punch is not an Allentown police officer, but rather a security guard at The View Lounge.
Police say the incident remains under investigation and they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information.
