PHILADELPHIA - Saquon Barkley has been nominated for NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year after a near-historic rushing season that he's continued into the playoffs.
The Associated Press announced breakout star linebacker Zack Baun is a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, while rookie backs Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell were nominated for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Vic Fangio, the orchestrator of the Eagles league-leading defense, is up for Assistant Coach of the Year.
What we know:
Saquon Barkley could add an MVP and Offensive Player of the Year award to his resume after a rushing season that nearly broke Eric Dickerson's 40-year-old record.
In his first season in Philly after spending the first six years of his career with the rival New York Giants, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards in 16 regular season games.
Barkley, 27, punctuated his potential MVP season in the playoffs with 60+ and 70+ yard rushing touchdowns in an unforgettable win over the Rams on Sunday.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow are also under consideration for MVP.
Zack Baun, also a newcomer to Philly, is vying for NFL Defensive Player of the Year after spending his first four years as a role player with the New Orleans Saints.
Rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean were nominated for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio, a Pennsylvania native and longtime NFL coach, is up for Assistant Coach of the Year in his second stint in Philadelphia.

The winners will be announced at NFL Honors on Feb. 6.
A nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league completed voting before the playoffs began.
