School Threatens To File Charges Against Boy, 9, for Love Notes

TAMPA, FL- A mother in Florida is furious after receiving calls her nine-year-old could face sexual harassment charges for writing a love note at school.

It was a simple message from the fourth grader to his crush.

His mom say he just wanted to let her know he liked her and that her eyes 'sparkled like diamonds.'

Students started to tease the young romantic and that is when school officials began threatening him with sexual harassment charges.

"That's when the principal proceeded to tell me that it wasn't appropriate that he was writing the note and that if he writes another note, they are going to file sexual harassment charges on my 9-year-old," his mother explained.

According to the boy's mother, the school principal said it was not appropriate for the boy to be writing love notes.

"What needs to happen is education needs to be provided about how to relate to this young girl or how to stay away from talking to her, if that's the goal," explained psychologist Dr. Valeria McClain

The boy never expressed any sexual intent in his notes and his mother insists he did nothing wrong.

"My 9-year-old doesn't even know what sexual harassment means," the boys mom explained.

The Hillsborough School District says they would file sexual harassment charge if the boy writes any more love notes.
