Scottsdale woman arrested after baby found wandering

A Scottsdale mother is under arrest after her 9-month-old baby was found alone by the pool of their apartment complex.

Court paperwork shows this is the second time the boy was left unsupervised; this time, police say it took Jasmine Gutierrez nearly an hour to realize her baby was missing. Gutierrez remains in jail, and the baby is in DCS custody.

Scottsdale Police found the child near a pool gate; investigators say he was covered in dirt and vomit. The Arizona Department of Child Safety is working to determine what happened, and how it happened again. Scottsdale Police say it's the second call of a child wandering outside alone.

"In both cases the Arcadia door doesn't latch properly, and the 9-month-old got outside through that," said Officer Kevin Watts with Scottsdale Police.

Police arrested Gutierrez; investigators say a neighbor discovered the child unattended near the pool gates. Officers say they were on scene from 40 minutes before Gutierrez even noticed her son was gone from the first-floor apartment.

"Hopefully the bottom line is the 9-month-old is safe and being well taken care of," said Watts.

Gutierrez has been charged one felony count for child endangerment; bond was set at $950, and she is due back in court on April 11.
