South Jersey neighborhood steps up to help firefighter and family

SOUTH JERSEY (WTXF) - A South Jersey neighborhood is stepping up to help someone devoted to protecting her community. Usually she's the one running into burning homes, but one Williamstown firefighter actually fell victim to a fire herself. Now, she and her family are without a home

"Seeing the house with flames shooting out of the roof is never a good thing."

Volunteer firefighter Nancy Perez immediately called upon her training when responding to a house fire in Monroe Township, but it got personal when she realized its where her fellow Williamstown firefighter Donna Parisi lived.

"Donna has given 110 percent of herself to us and to this community and we can't ask for a better person to help represent us and be a part of our family."

And now, this firefighting family is stepping up to help one of their own--accepting donations and gift cards now since Donna and her family lost everything.

"That money will go straight to them. 100 percent of that money will go straight to them as opposed to other donating sites where there might be a percentage take out."

Fire company leaders say Donna's parents and brother thankfully got out of the home without injuries, but the loss of their home is still an emotional struggle.

"She's a trooper and she is doing the best she can. Her and her family are pulling together."

Working for the Williamstown Fire Company for three years department leaders say Donna Parisi embodies the spirit of family and service that is coming back around to help in her time of need.
