Survey: Philadelphia diners are the best tippers in America

A new survey found that a large percentage of Americans are in favor of getting rid of tipping altogether, while also identifying the cities with the best tippers.

The new Zagat survey found that 43% of Americans were in favor of getting rid of tipping altogether. Despite that statistic, Americans typically tip about 18%.

Diners in New Orleans and Miami were the most supportive of doing away with tipping with 42% and 40% saying they "hate it."

The survey also found that Philadelphia is home to the best tippers, with diners usually leaving about 20%.

After Philadelphia, Denver and Washington D.C. were found to be more likely to show their server extra appreciated by tipping 19.5% and 19.2% respectively.

According to the survey, diners in Portland were the worst tippers, leaving about 16.5% on average.
